Yesterday at Powell Bilingual Elementary School in Northwest D.C., senior administration officials celebrated the first anniversary of the ‪#‎InvestInUS‬ campaign – launched at the White House Summit on Early Childhood Education in December 2014.

Thank you to our wonderful speakers: Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Obama; John King, Senior Advisor Delegated Duties of Deputy Secretary of Education; Roberto Rodriguez, Deputy Assistant to the President for Education; Brian Pick, Chief of Teaching and Learning for the District of Columbia Public Schools; Katherine Bradley, President of CityBridge Foundation, and O’Kiyyah Lyons-Lucas, Principal of Powell Elementary.

They were followed by a panel discussion featuring local business and philanthropic leaders who have made great strides for early childhood education in The District. The panel included Kris Perry, Executive Director of the First Five Years Fund; Lesli Rotenberg, General Manager of Children’s Programming at PBS; Arvind Manocha, President and CEO of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts; Anne Gunsteens, Executive Director of The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation; Dr. Matthew Biel, Division Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital; and Rozita Green, Chief Strategy Officer for the Bainum Family Foundation.
