Mapping PDG B-5 Participation Over Time
The federal Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five (PDG B-5) program is designed to strengthen states’ early childhood systems by building upon existing federal, state, and local child care and early learning investments. It represents a unique opportunity for the federal government to support states and territories in improving the quality and efficiency of their early learning programs and systems, while also reducing fragmentation and overlap.
There has been overwhelming interest in the PDG B-5 program since it was created in 2015, with 49 of the 50 states as well as Washington, DC and four territories having benefitted from PDG B-5 funding. Most have applied for multiple rounds of competitive funding as a way to continue to meet the needs of children and families in their communities. The map below presents an overview of which states and territories have participated and when, how much funding they have been awarded, and a brief example of notable plans or accomplishments.
Continued federal funding for PDG B-5 is necessary for states and territories to keep building and improving effective mixed-delivery systems.
