Through the Years: Preschool Development Grants Birth Through Five

The Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five (PDG B-5) program is a $315 million competitive federal grant designed to improve collaboration and quality in states’ early childhood systems by building upon existing federal, state, and local early care and learning investments.
The chart below contains information about grants made to states and territories since the program began in 2018. States can apply for one-year Planning Grants followed by three-year Renewal Grants. Once a state has completed its grant, it is eligible to apply to again, but must continue to complete a Planning Grant before it is eligible for a Renewal Grant. The majority of grants have been awarded during competition years, but the key at the bottom indicates when a state has been awarded a grant outside of the usual cycle.
